Superheroes supporting social and personal change? Well. as we explore the origin and significance of these superhero stories, we will see that these superhero stories are the part of a long tradition of hero stories. What is the purpose these stories serve in contemporary society? That is a question with many different possible answers, but what is clear is that superheroes attempt to reflect modern values and issues and inspire the hero inside all of us to evolve and develop into our better selves.

Third Assignment: Introducing Canada's Superhero, Captain Canuck
Canada has had its own comic book history, including a golden age of comics during the Second World War when U.S. comics were unavailable to Canadian readers. Captain Canuck is from a later period, published in the 1970s. We read a three-issue story called "Chariots of Fire" and issue 8, which is the origin story for Captain Canuck.
